eSIM Adoption Gains Momentum in Travel, Yet Awareness and Usage Lag Behind
CounterPoint Research conducted a Consumer eSIM Awareness Survey
which highlights the state of user experience and adoption of eSIMs.
According to the survey, eSIMs are becoming popular among consumers but
there are still some obstacles in awareness and adoption of this tech.
The survey was conducted among 3,500+ respondents from different
countries. 87% of the respondents said that eSIMs are very helpful and
important during travel for them. Most of the respondents said that they
use eSIMs because it has great connectivity and low roaming fee
advantages.
Even with a lot of consumers aware of eSIMs and its
advantages, only 24% of them have used eSIMs during their travels. 61%
of the consumers who use eSIMs regularly have used them for their
travels too. Mohit Agrawal, Research Director at CounterPoint, says that
people who have used eSIMs know how beneficial it is because of its
connectivity while roaming internationally. This shows that many people
are going to use them in the future, but first we need to make more
people aware of eSIMs and its advantages.
The survey also found
that there was a big difference in eSIMs usage during travels across
different regions. People in the US have overall high usage of eSIMs
while people from countries like France, Germany and Poland used eSIMs
for travels only. 39% of the respondents who use eSIMs said that they
still haven’t used travel eSIMs and want to explore them soon.
Younger consumers are more likely to use eSIMs during travel as compared to older consumers who prefer traditional roaming. Growth of travel eSIMs is a good trend among consumers nonetheless because it shows the potential eSIMs have. Consumers just need a little more awareness and transparent pricing to get themselves eSIMs, for regular as well as travel use.
